Tools required:

  • Philips screwdriver
  • Adjustable wrench

Please remember to unplug the machine before beginning the repair 

 

Remove the control box (and EMI filter on 240v markets) from the Comet II lathe bed.

 

To remove the control box: Unscrew the 3 Philips screws from the front side of the lathe bed.

 

To remove the EMI filter: Unscrew the 2 Philips screws from the back of the lathe bed.

On the bottom of the control box, unscrew the 4 Philips screws on the outside border of the control box.

 

The center screw does NOT need to removed since this is for the grounding of the machine.

Pull and remove the plastic knob of the speed dial.

 

Remove the plastic cap for the nut on the speed dial.

Undo the nut on the speed dial and

 

unplug the speed knob from the inside

Replace the speed dial with the new one.

 

Follow the steps in reverse to reassemble the machine and test that is speed is able to be changed.
