I am trying to remove the hand brake from my Nova Comet II lathe and it is on so tight that I can't remove it. Are there any tools people recommend to help with the removal of this part from the lathe? I have seen videos where people put masking tape on it to try and increase the grip, which I will try next.
Thank you for your post regarding the handwheel issue. This can certainly be a task over time with the handwheel. While not relying on the indexing wheel to hold the spindle in this situation due to the tension in the threads could cause it to break. While using an alternative to tool to hold the spindle, screw a 2"x4" onto the handwheel to create leverage and then apply pressure in a clockwise direction. This should free it and allow you to finish removing the handwheel. Please contact us back if you have any additional questions or concerns and we will be more than happy to assist you.
Thank you for contacting us at Nova Tools and we hope you have a wonderful day.
